ABSTRACT

The design was developed by the Masonry Institute of Michigan in cooperation with an ad-hoc committee on Generic Wall Design. The objective of the committee was to develop and publish user-friendly Generic Wall Designs. Details in this design are conceptual. Actual application of the design in a practical situation shall be the responsibility of the user. The design represents the committee’s opinions based on previous experiences and performance of related masonry systems. Decisions to utilize this information are not within the purview of the Masonry Institute of Michigan and are for use by professionals who are competent to evaluate the significance and limitations and who accept responsibility for applying information provided.

Generic wall designs focus on provisions to minimize and control rain penetration. Structural, aesthetic and other environmental issues, i.e.: fire resistance, thermal performance, condensation and sound control are not addressed.
