Masonry Building Code Updated
The recently released 2011 TMS 402/ACI 530/ASCE 5 (commonly referred to as the MSJC) has been adopted by the new 2012 edition of the International Building Code and International Residential Code. It represents a major update from the 2008 edition both in technical requirements and in layout. 2011 updates are consistent with the requirements in ASCE 7-10, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures, which includes a new strength basis for wind loads.
To provide a quick update on the major changes, The Masonry Society, with support from the National Concrete Masonry Association and the International Masonry Institute, is developing a seminar that will be presented this fall.
