Design Architect Michael Graves and Associates, NJ, recommended
SmithGroup, Detroit, be commissioned to investigate and evaluate
the entire exterior envelope of the 1927 Cret Building and its modern

17-story, 400-room hotel is part of a $275 million expansion to
Motor City Casino which pays tribute to both Detroit's auto industry
and the historic brick neighborhood in which it resides. Brick from
the temporary casino, the former Wonder Bread factory circa 1915,
was matched for the addition doubling it's size. At the suggestion
of mason contractor Mike Harman, Leidal & Hart, adding 418,000
brock to the design for the hotel kept the masonry look of the neighborhood
and brought the project within budget.
