Not only are flashing and weepholes important in today's masonry walls, they are required by the building code. A brief history of flashing requirements in the building code will be discussed along with current requirements and industry recommendations. Participants will learn how to select flashing materials and how to properly install flashing in different masonry building systems (single wythe, multi-wythe and veneer). Detailing and workmanship concerns are also addressed. Keep up-to-date on current building codes, standards and industry recommendations. Flashing requirements are based on the Michigan Building Code 2000, Michigan Residential Code 2000 and Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures (ACI 530/ASCE 5/TMS 402). Detailing and workmanship concerns are addressed along with discussion of flashing materials. Certification is issued upon successful completion by demonstrating competency through written exam.
